Construction of a maternity waiting house is nearing completion. The house is outside the gates of the Ilula Hospital campus. Under the direction of pediatrician Dr. Mirjam Triebel and with funds from Germany, the building will provide housing for expectant pregnant mothers prior to delivery.
Many women travel a long way to Ilula to deliver their babies. Certain health conditions require that women be near the hospital during their third trimester of pregnancy to allow closer monitoring and improved labor and delivery outcomes. This new building will provide a place for these expectant mothers to stay while they await the arrival of their newborns.
